As a soloist, Simon Minshall has performed across the UK at establishments such as the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Leeds University and Chetham's School of Music. In 2008, he was a brass semi-finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition.

In 2013, Simon was a finalist in the Royal Over Seas League Music Competition, and was awarded the Philip Jones Memorial Prize for Outstanding Brass Playing. He was also the winner of the John Solomon Brass Award, whilst a student at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

Simon continuously aims to push the boundaries of bass trombone solo playing; as well as performing new commissions from up and coming composers, he also collaborates with other instruments - recent performances include Daniel Schnyder's 'Trio for Clarinet, Bass Trombone and Piano'.
